Gideon Greyvenstein holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Pretoria and a master’s in business leadership (MBL) from UNISA. He is registered as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa and the Engineering Institution of Zambia.
He lectured engineering at the North-West University in SA for more than 25 years and held the positions of Director of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. His main area of research was the modelling of thermal-fluid systems. This work led to the development of the thermal-fluid systems code Flownex, which today is used by leading international companies such as Rolls Royce and Lufthansa. He also spearheaded the development of a range of water heating heat pumps which is still being produced today. In 2005 he won the National Science and Technology Forum’s (NSTF) award for the individual who has made the most outstanding contribution to science, engineering and technology (SET) in South Africa through research and its outputs over the previous five years in any sector or discipline of SET.
In the mid-1990s he founded the engineering company M-Tech Industrial (Pty) Ltd and served as CEO of the company until 2008 when he was appointed General Manager Engineering of PBMR, a state-owned nuclear engineering company tasked with the development of a new inherently safe gas-cooled nuclear reactor, called the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor or PBMR for short. After the PBMR project was terminated by government he founded Sunray Power Company in 2013 in Zambia.
He served on various councils, boards and committees during his career. Amongst these are board member of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), board member of the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa (NECSA) and member of the Standing Advisory Group for Nuclear Energy (SAGNE) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He started his career at Chromar Technology, a supplier of cutting edge military optical systems with clients including Denel, Carl Zeiss Optronics and BAE Land Systems. Chromar was the optical partner of the team that developed South Africa’s first satellite to be launched into space through their collaboration with Sunspace. From there he joined Kentz Engineers and Constructors, where he worked as a Field Engineer on projects for Transnet NMPP in Ladysmith, Vale Coal mine in Mozambique, Sasol gas line in Komatipoort, Eskom Gasifier in Alice EC, and did design for RNE in Sasolburg.
From 2013 until present, he has been working for Enernex Solutions (Pty) Ltd. who is the parent company of Sunray Power Company Limited, as a Project Engineer. The companies focus on the design, development, manufacturing and distribution of renewable energy solutions, as well as training in the renewable energy market, with special emphasis on PV Solar.
Tymen represented South Africa in the 1st World Mind Sports Games in Beijing (2008) as a Junior Bridge player, holds a grade 8 in Piano and grade 6 in Tuba, both Cum Laude from the Royal Schools of Music in London, and enjoys cycling.

Ivan joined Sunray in 2021 and is based in George, WC. His experience in the construction industry and eye for detail, lets solar installations look like works of art.
